Every Cavapoo coat is different

Cavapoos can inherit anything from the Cavalier's silky, feathered coat to the Poodle's tight curl, and most sit somewhere between. Two Cavapoos from the same litter can need completely different grooming.

Wavier and curlier coats trap shed hair and mat in the same way a Cockapoo's does. Silkier, Cavalier-leaning coats mat less across the body but still knot heavily in the ear feathering, behind the legs and around the harness line.

That harness point catches a lot of owners out. A daily-walked Cavapoo in a harness will mat exactly where the straps sit, however good the rest of the coat looks.

Ears need particular attention

Cavapoos inherit long, low-set, heavily furnished ears from the Cavalier side. They hold moisture, restrict airflow and are a common site for infection.

Every full groom includes an ear clean and, where appropriate, tidying the hair around the canal. If we see anything that looks like the start of a problem — smell, redness, discharge, head shaking — we will tell you and suggest a vet check. We do not treat ear conditions, but we do spot them early.

How often should a Cavapoo be groomed?

Six to eight weeks suits most Cavapoos. Curlier coats often need six; silkier coats can sometimes stretch to ten with good home brushing.

Whatever the interval, comb the ear feathering, armpits and rear twice a week at home. Those three places account for the overwhelming majority of matting we see on this breed.
